OPEN SPINE SURGERY

Surgery When It Truly Matters

Open Spine Surgery is a well-established surgical approach used to treat complex spinal conditions where minimally invasive or endoscopic techniques may not be sufficient. It allows the surgeon direct visualization and access to the spinal structures, making it especially useful in cases involving severe nerve compression, instability, deformity, infection, or trauma.
At Niramaya Spine Care, open spine surgery is recommended only when clearly indicated, following a thorough evaluation and after less invasive options have been considered.

When is Open Spine Surgery Needed?

Open surgery is chosen when the condition requires extensive decompression, correction, or stabilization, such as:

  • Severe spinal canal stenosis involving multiple levels
  • Spinal instability requiring fixation or fusion
  • Complex deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis)
  • Spinal trauma or fractures
  • Infections or tumors affecting the spine
  • Revision surgery after failed previous procedures

Common Types of Open Spine Surgery

🔹 Laminectomy
Removal of the lamina (back part of the vertebra) to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves, commonly used for advanced spinal stenosis.
🔹 Discectomy
Removal of severely herniated disc material when minimally invasive approaches are not suitable.
🔹 Spinal Fusion
Stabilization of two or more vertebrae using screws, rods, and bone graft to treat instability, deformity, or severe degeneration.
🔹 Deformity Correction Surgery
Used for scoliosis, kyphosis, or post-traumatic deformities requiring alignment correction.
🔹 Tumor or Infection Surgery
Allows complete removal of infected or abnormal tissue and stabilization if required.

Our Philosophy

At Niramaya Spine Care, we follow a continuum-based approach:
Conservative → Interventional → Endoscopic → Minimally Invasive → Open Surgery (only when required)
This ensures every patient receives the least invasive, most effective treatment tailored to their condition.
